We could all do with some life hacks, tips, and tricks. Some of them might look stupid but at a closer look, some are actually really useful. Some people have really weird, yet creative, ways of finding solutions to problems. They use what they have and engineer something that actually works. Even if the ideas are silly they are still surprisingly clever. So check out these 40 solutions people thought of and they actually work! You can even make notes and see which ones you can use (we are only kidding).
Spoon
We all had one of those moments where we left our lunch cutlery at home. If you are working outside of an office and found yourself stuck with just your lunch box, we got your back.
You can just take a piece of plastic pipe or any piece of hard plastic, draw a spoon or fork shape on the plastic and cut it out. You will have yourself a rough makeshift eating utensil.
Extra Space
Most bachelors live in small apartments with not much room for extra seats. And a bachelor needs to have some room for when the boys come over to watch sports or have a couple of drinks.
Here is an idea for you, build yourself a wooden bunk bed! But instead of adding a bed on top, add a small sofa. There will be enough space for those who sit at the bottom and some extra space on top as well.
Sailing
Do you also want to have your summer cruising on a lake but can’t afford a boat? We get it, the luxury of sailing in the sunset is not that cheap.
All you really need to do is find a truck topper at your local junkyard. Don’t forget to make sure it’s not damaged. Double-check that it actually floats, pop a boat engine, or use some oars if you are on a budget and enjoy your fishing trip.
Laundry
When you live on the road, washing your clothes can become difficult. Using self-service laundry can become expensive. But this solution won’t cost you half as much if you manage not to break your car.
Tie a large water cooler to your wheel cap and make sure it doesn’t touch the ground. Before you hit the road just throw in your dirty laundry, some soap, and warm water. Cross your fingers and pray that you'll survive the trip.
Camping
This makeshift camping contraption was actually put up for sale in a community newspaper. Like most of these redneck solutions, the means needed for this idea could be found at a junkyard.
Secure an old camper on top of a truck with tracks and drive it to your favorite camping spot. We wouldn’t recommend this, but you can always give it a try and let us know how your camping went.
Seven Wheeler
Using the bottom of a trolley does not seem like the best way to replace a blown-out tire. There are so many things that can go wrong with this “solution” we wouldn’t even know where to begin.
If you use this “life hack” hopefully it'll just be for the trip to the tire shop. Again, we don't recommend you try this but if you do let us know how it went.
Safe
You might be able to ride your bike with no handlebars, but can you steer a bike with a steering wheel? We wonder if that thing actually works at all.
This would probably not be so easy to get the hang of, especially the “controls” but once you do it, its just like driving a normal car. Well, only you have two wheels and no brakes. Safe to say it’s not safe.
Gutter
No one wants water pouring straight out from the gutter and damaging the walls of your house. So here is a redneck solution that can actually be useful if the tip of your roof gutter gave out on you.
Stick a garden boot onto the end of the gutter, cut away the toe piece and you're pretty much good to go. The water will pour out away from the walls and the neighbors will be laughing at you.
Bucket Bath
There are many houses and apartments which are built with just a shower cabin. If you are the type of person who enjoys foaming bubble baths and those cool bath bombs, this is for you.
It looks extremely uncomfortable, and the water probably wouldn’t stay warm but it somewhat does the job. If you are thinking of giving this idea a try, maybe get a bigger bucket to sit in.
Garage Chair
Feeling a little “tire-d”? Wheel yourself over and take a seat. This idea might actually come in handy for those who have a passion for cars. Can even be a nice addition to your garage.
Although it might take some time to make, this invention is something you can actually give a try. Just keep in mind that your significant other might not approve of it being in the living room or anywhere else in the house.
Limousine
We are not sure if this is even legal, or if it is a safe idea. This guy apparently crashed 2 of his cars, surprisingly they were the same ones, at least the color was.
Taking the parts of the cars which were not damaged and welding them together made this even a bigger “better” car. With a sweet ride like that, you can open up a redneck limousine service company.
Woodcutter
Hillbilly engineered or just a brilliant idea of design? You can decide. If you have the time and the patience needed to get this idea done, then, by all means, give it a try.
A wood storing solution made from wood that looks like a woodcutter. We think it is a genius addition for a lumberjack business or even a cabin home. With a stash like that you “wood” never run out of fire logs.
Band-Aid
Now, this has you covered. With the world we live in now, licking envelopes may become a thing of the past. Keeping this in mind, this idea may not be that silly.
Having a band-aid with you is always a good idea, so if you need to seal something, like an envelope, just stick it on. This might look a bit weird, even gross maybe but it does the job.
Pool
No pool? No problem. Well, unless you don’t have an old boat lying around, then you have problem. Usually, when you have a boat, the point is to make sure the water stays out, but not this time.
This boat fits just perfectly in your back garden where the kids can splash around. You can even use the bow of the boat to serve drinks during your perfect pool party.
Shower
Showerheads that sprinkle water on you like raindrops always make for the most relaxing showers. But these luxurious shower heads don’t always come at a cheap price. So here is an idea.
All you need is some plastic piping, put it together any way you want, and pierce the pipes. Just make sure that the holes are not too small and just big enough for a raindrop to come out from.
Alarm
Apparently, metal pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils are not just for cooking. If you have ever dropped any of these before, you know the loud noise they can make.
Place a metal pot with a bunch of spoons and forks, you can even throw in a cup in there, around your door handle. When someone opens the door from the other side, be prepared for that “alarm” to go off.
Pot Bath
Before you jump to conclusions, this child is not being cooked, that is not a big soup spoon in the background. She is not even being tortured, she is simply enjoying a warm bath.
When you’re snowed in and your water pipes have frozen solid, you have to come up with other ways to stay warm and clean. And these parents did just that. Some melted snow in a large pot and you are set.
Bell
The doorbells are gone again, and you’re expecting some guests - what do you do? Well, if you’re taking any ideas from these solutions, just put this “instructive” sign on your door.
Whoever came up with this sign has a good sense of humor if you ask us. Why not mix it up and ask them to shout, “Knock Knock” or “Woof Woof ''. It seems like a great solution. Or maybe just actually knock on the door?
Tape Job
Dents and scratches are almost impossible to avoid on your car. And over time paint peels off the car's surface. Fixing all of that can end up being very expensive. So here is another redneck idea for you.
Just swap the paint job with some multipurpose duct tape to cover up not just the patches, but the whole car, like this guy did. Just find the right color, if your car isn’t grey.
Umbrella
Your umbrellas got you covered from rain or the sun, or when you are fixing your boat on the water. Yes, you heard that right… when you are fixing your boat.
As stupid as this might look, it’s actually not a bad idea. These guys hung the umbrella upside down under the area they were working on to catch any bolts or tools that could fall straight into the water.
Bike
So, your bike can only hold one person, no problem. This idea from a guy in Denton could be just the solution you need to carry an extra person with you on your bike.
A bracket, extra wheel, and a shopping cart are all you’ll need to make this mechanism and you’ve got yourself a bike with a side cart. Maybe only big enough to take your kids with, but who cares this thing still looks cool.
Crane
Dad’s usually come up with the best ideas. They can take anything and give it a completely unrelated user. Like this dad here, cooking for the boys.
His daughter bought him a turkey fryer and he casually cooked it using a 30-ton overhead crane at work. If you have access to an overhead crane, this Thanksgiving, use it to cook your turkey.
Handle
If your door handle has come off and you are stuck with a door that can’t be opened, don’t worry. You can just use this ridiculous temporary solution to open that door.
Cut open a plastic milk container and screw the container handle as the handle part of the door. You can even paint it into any color you like. It’s probably just a quick fix but we are sure you can handle it.
Monitor
We are sure that many of us have been there, a broken laptop screen. Replacing the screen can cost almost as much as buying a new laptop. This solution doesn’t look very neat, but it’s actually quite clever.
Take your broken laptop apart and hook it up to a monitor just like a proper computer. Just like this guy did, you can even hook it up right behind the screen, so it’s tucked away.
Lawnmower
This guy has taken it upon himself to get the shed to his backyard. He was probably too impatient to wait for the delivery, so he made his own plan.
Now, again, we’re not sure how safe this is, but maybe you could use this solution for something smaller than a shed. Using your ride-on lawnmower to tow big objects is quite clever. Kill two birds with one stone and cut your grass while you are at it.
Stick Solution
Fridge compartments can easily snap after many years of use. If it is not from knocking a heavy bottle on it, it can happen with the force of opening the fridge and all the bottles falling out.
This silly solution doesn’t look fantastic, but it works. Just get some sticks from your garden and cut them to the right size of the compartment. You’ve got yourself a safe space to put your fridge items again.
Multiplayer
Gaming can be fun, but if your opponents have an unfair advantage, like being able to see your next move, then things could get quite nasty. So why not try this solution for blocking out the second players when playing on the same screen.
Take control by using a box that is cut open, tape it to the middle part of the TV, this will cover the other player's view. It is a really useful solution especially if you have an annoying sibling.
Bathtub
Snowed in again this winter? Shoveling heaps of snow can be such a painful process unless you are this guy. Looks stupid at first, but it is actually quite clever.
If you just happen to be lucky enough to see an old bath lying around, you can attach it onto your adventure vehicle with the inside part facing out. While driving, the bath will scoop up all the snow out of your way.
Fire Pit
Fire pits are so much fun. They are a great touch to your house for socializing and in winter for staying warm. But there might not always be the right space to install one forever.
This moveable fire pit is just what you need then. You will just need to extend the arms and wheel part of the wheelbarrow to make sure it does not burn. You will be the talk of the town when you come wheeling this pit out at your next BBQ.
Toaster
Want some crispy toast for breakfast but you don’t have a toaster? Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Well, your metal strainer and stovetop got you. By placing a metal strainer over your stove plate, you’ve now created a bread toasting solution.
Set the heat level to how toasty you would like your toast and leave it on there. When it’s ready to turn make sure you don’t burn yourself and use a pair of tongs.
Aux
Aux cables never seem to be long enough for you to be seated on a sofa and control your music. But this solution will have you shocked, literally shocked if it is not done right and you are not careful.
Make sure you do some research before trying this, but by adding in some extra wires from one aux to another, you should have yourself a perfect working extra long aux cable.
Air Conditioner
As the summers get warmer, people are trying to find more and more ways to stay cooler. From ice baths to giant fans, the options are endless. And then you get this guy who built himself a boxed-in AC.
He has used his lawnmower and boxed it in the sides with wood and plastic-styled windows and doors. The trick is that there is an AC inside! It even gets the power while the lawnmower is being driven.
The Car
When life doesn’t go as planned, we sometimes find ourselves in situations where we cannot afford to fix all the little broken things around us. Especially when it comes to our cars.
So if your car is falling apart do these fixes. A handle from your bedroom door is a good replacement for your car’s door. The dining room chair fits perfectly instead of a driver's seat. Has the AC control fallen off? Just use a faucet-turner instead.
Office Chair
Do you wish you had an office chair that felt safe and sturdy, where you can rock back and forth without falling over backward? The guy who thought of this solution may definitely be onto something.
Soldering shock absorbers to the back of your office chair can give you that heavy-duty safety feel. We bet you could really do with one of these, and this solution could actually be comfortable.
Welding things together can solve a lot of problems. Just like this one. Although we cannot make out which part of the car this solution was used for, you can take the idea and use it on whatever you like.
Snap the ends off of two crescent wrenches and weld the ends to the middle of the two wrenches to make a sturdy brace holder. On second thought, maybe get the professionals to do the fixing...
Driveway
This seems a bit risky, but if it works, it works. Many people take time when renovating their homes themselves, and if you’re one of those people, maybe this solution will help you.
When this garage was built the bottom half of the house was completely forgotten. And when it was remembered, the owner had a bridge-like driveway installed. If the car is not lined up properly…that could be another problem, which we don’t have a solution for.
BBQ
This solution is actually really useful for those last-minute BBQs or if you are out in the wilderness with your trailer and no grid. We would recommend making sure that your trailer is cleaned before using it.
You can easily place the trailer gate over a fire and cook your steaks perfectly. No reason to get the lack of grids to get in your way of having some good BBQ cookout.
Fan
This idea is going to “blow” you away. When your cake mixers are used too much, they can die on you quite easily. An overworked engine can’t last forever right.
Instead of running out to buy a new one, just hook your mixer tool to a fan, after taking the fan apart of course. With a bit of redneck ingenuity, you’ve got yourself and a nice big cake mixer to make your birthday cakes.
Outdoor TV
How much fun would an outdoor Super Bowl party be? Well with this stupid, yet not so stupid solution, you can have one. This guy wanted exactly that and so he made it happen.
He just strapped the TV to his outdoor roofing, and he had himself an outdoor TV. If you want to give it a try, just make sure your TV is strapped securely. Or just get a TV mounting kit...
Shoe Dryer
Fire hazard or a walking hairdryer. Well, neither, if done properly. This solution is so handy for keeping your shoes dry on those wet and rainy days. You can use this too, just be careful not to burn your place down.
Just get yourself some pipes that connect, place one shoe on each side at the bottom and a hairdryer on top. The smell might be a bit of a problem but the shoes will be dry.
